Chapter One
A Livid Sky on London
A Livid Sky on London
It is 2186, and the Reapers have just arrived on Earth. While Commander Shepard and the Alliance military are taking the fight to the stars, the people of the human homeworld are left to fend for themselves as best they can.[/size]
In London, prospects are grim. The takeover of Earth is slow and brutal; the humans aren't giving up easily, but against the Reapers there is only so much that can be done. The center of the city is more or less intact, though it is held under constant watch by Indoctrinated servants of the Reapers. A curfew is in effect, husks and Indoctrinated alike patrol the streets, and refugees struggle to find food and shelter.
The Resistance is doing its best to provide for those who have lost their families, their homes, everything-- but they're small right now, having to fly under the radar. At the moment they're barely more than a support team for the homeless and for those injured who were brave or insane enough to try taking on the Reapers. They've set up camp in a closed-down tube station on the outskirts of the Reaper-controlled section of London and are working on establishing a small black market for food and medical supplies. Once this is up and running, they'll be able to plan tactical strikes against the Reaper forces, but for now it's all they can do to provide for the hundreds of refugees that arrive on their doorstep with each new day.
The city itself has been broken up into roughly concentric fragments. Central London has been spared the worst of the blow as of yet, but it is surrounded by acres and acres of deserted, shattered buildings and husk-haunted streets. Beyond that lies a broad swath of quarantined territory, a breeding ground for Reaper monsters, into which many venture in search of food, and from which only very few return. Past the quarantine zone, all that remains of London is rubble, patrolled constantly by the elite ground forces at the Reapers' disposal: Cannibals and Harvesters and, perhaps, even worse. And past that are the Reapers themselves, stalking through the ruined streets destroying or taking captive anything in their path.
It's a grim picture painted for the desperate, tiny Resistance. They're going to need all the help they can get-- and no small amount of miracles-- if they're going to have any hope of surviving this invasion.
