Spike does have a sense of humour and will make jokes if the tension starts to get tough so that those fighting would calm down or at least seem less nervous. Outside of war and conflict he enjoys socialising and going for drinks whilst meeting new people. He is friendly outside his uniform however makes sure he does not go past anything which could get him into trouble.
Spike likes his own company to read or to relax as he doesn't like stressful situations and did have a breakdown on one mission (read history) in which he almost lost his life as a Military Man. He can appear calm or damn right mad depending on his stress levels, but no one wants to go near him in stressful times as he becomes extremely snappy.
Spike can appear over confident, cocky and arrogant with his own abilities. He thinks he is the best Vanguard around and likes to show off his skills. He also likes to boast about his achievements within the Alliance and his proud to wear the uniform. He knows people hate him for it however he knows it was better then the gang he ran with.
history Spike was born in Los Angles, California. He was out on the streets by 4 due to his mother being a red sand addict which led him to having to feed himself to survive. His father was unknown as his mother slept around with different men for drugs, she eventually died when Spike turned 6. He had no happy memories of his mother and did not bother tracing back his father due to the fact he never showed interest. Being apart of a gang was part of who Spike became, hang around with a small group called The Saints which basically took in Orphans. Spike has learnt to read and write through the gang which gave each younger member lessons in order for particular missions.
Spike stole from people, shops etc and refused to deal drugs due to his stoner mother. By the time he was 11 he was a respectable gang member within The Saints. Things were going well for Spike until the day he had an accident with Element Zero. He had snuck into a warehouse to steal some Military Grade Weapons and instead came across Element Zero where he was forced into it by a jealous person within the gang and all he could remember was the pain and agony his body underwent. Spike almost died that day however state of the art hospital equipment kept him alive, he did not know why anyone would want him. He was an orphan and he could easily be forgotten about.
After a couple of months and tests he was released from hospital and was told he would have biotic abilities, however they would be weak because he did not have an amp. He decided to keep that a secret as he did not want to be labelled as a freak. Spike continued to run for the gang as when he was 16 arrested for shop lifting, eventually released a day before his 18th birthday. Spike had been in trouble with the law several times and this time wanted to stay away from gangs and make something with his life as he did not want to end up like his mother. Spike decided he had a lucky break and went straight to the sign up office on his birthday. He could remember his interview with all his criminal records, and the drugs tests. He remembered telling them he had biotic abilities but was unsure what in and the Military Man smiled, they needed biotics.
Spike went to his training camp and was the best soldier within his group, after all gang warfare meant he was quick minded and quick fingered, if he needed to change tactics he would go ahead and change tactics. During a mission when he was 23 there was a raid on a Military Base, apparently Bartarians invaded and was trying to round up slaves. He fought his best and managed to free a lot of those captured as well as shooting a lot of Bartarians with his assault rifle. This got some reignition for the N7 programme as was invited to it, however he said he would go ahead after he had more biotic training. At 24 he managed to train his biotics and fitted into the group called, "Vanguards" who are the front line attackers.
Spike went onto the N7 programme, first he thought it was easy and the further he got, the less sleep he got and the less food. He was use to rationing and fighting endless nights after all gang warfare. He kept his biotics at a minimum as he didn't want to tire himself out. Spike knew a few people who dropped out the programme which he was upset about as he enjoyed others company. The training and the tests very stressful and several times he wanted to quit. During his N7 training on his N6 mission something went wrong. Whilst out scouting an area with recruits a raid took place, again Bartarians but this time there were a lot more. Spike fought hard as he watched men beside him, those he considered brothers become slaughtered. He knew this was not part of the mission and he kept calling base for back up, they came whilst Spike continued to fight.
That day Spike was forced onto a medical break from the N7 programme as he watched a group of 7 men be killed in cold blood. Spike had nightmares and extreme paranoia. It took 3 months to get him to talk about the events, he then heard discussions about them dismissing Spike from the N7 programme as well as the Military all together. He sighed and decided he would mourn later. Spike completed his N7 training as was rewarded with the badge and armour.
Spike was assigned to a ship where missions ranged from boring transport ones to more advanced ones. When he saw the opportunity came he put his name down to join Captain Anderson, sadly that got rejected as a better candidate was there instead. Spike continued following orders and formed no romantic relationships. He has been told he is Xenophobic which was a major reason was his rejection from the Normandy as well as the fights he had with any Bartarian he saw. He had hated them.
Spike was on shore leave when the events in 2183 CE on the Citadel. He was a respected officer so he went off with his captain. He remembered what happened, everything was going wrong and he saw the destruction and this giant metal machine monster apparently a Reaper. He had heard some commotion about it but ignored it. Spike became a believer of Commander Shepard. He remembered the council dismissing Shepard when he died and stood with those who believed. Spike was suspended eventually and put in an office within the Alliance HQ in 2186 CE due to speaking out against the Council for hiding the truth as he did believe Shepard, after all war ran in his blood.
That year was why he was where he was now, on Earth fighting alongside the Resistance. Due to his own suspension he was left on Earth to guard and he remembered it well when the Reapers struck down and he tried to evacuate all non Military Personnel. He was back in his comfort zone, trying to survive at all costs.

Spike watched in the bar, eyeing out any suspicious activity. His pistol in his hand with his finger twitching at the trigger, his hands covered in bruises and burns due to running away. He hated running, he was a soldier and was meant to fight but these creatures were too much. He almost got killed today by a swarm of husks, it was his first time he had seen the twisted faces charging towards him without making any compensable speech which could be mistaken as zombies. He could not believe that the silver bodies, humanoid shapes with what looked like wires sprawling across them were former humans and could possible be an old friend or someone he knew from back in Alliance HQ. He sighed as he thought back, he hated thinking sometimes.
Spike got up from his seat and moved towards the window of the abandoned pub, the new base. He knew they would not be safe as there was always something new coming their way and so many were already dead, it was just blood bath after blood bath. Burning buildings and country side, everything turning to ash. In the distance Reapers could be seen entering the atmosphere and he thought there were already enough. Their red beams burning down the city within the horizon, more agonised screams of death and destruction and he was in the middle of it. Sometimes death seemed much better then this hell he was forced in on. He prayed that Commander Shepard would return from the mission and do something to save Earth.
Spike quickly snapped out of his thoughts where a large screech could be heard, a large metallic dragon was in the sky. Quickly the small group of men and women dashed out and began firing at this metallic dragon. Spike decided to take closer action and charged into the enemy and throwing a biotic punch, another bruise and possibly broken fingers. Quickly he caused a surge of biotics to explode around the ground (Nova) and watched the explosion in front of him which ripped down his barrier. Luckily he was protected from the burns which would of came across, slipping out some medigel he applied it to his fingers hoping to god they wouldn't be broken as there was not a doctor with them. Slowly they began to walk away from the city, Spike taking point and walking towards their next destination... wherever that was.
